About Tampa

Often overlooked thanks to Miami and Orlando, Tampa is one of Florida's hidden delights. This area, which encompasses Tampa, Clearwater, and the peninsular St. Petersburg, has all of the culture, entertainment and bustle of most big cities, all within a short ride of some of the United State's most stunning natural beauty. Tampa offers something for everyone. The pro sports fanatic can choose from the Tampa Bay Lightning, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and over in St. Pete, the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. Theme park junkies can split a weekend between Busch Gardens, with its animal safaris, and Adventure Island, a sprawling water park. Science geeks will get their fill of the natural world at the Museum of Science and Industry, the Florida Aquarium and the Lowry Park Zoo (now with penguins!). Party animals and cigar aficionados alike should not miss Ybor City, with its small stores peddling hand-rolled cigars and its numerous bars, nightclubs and funky boutiques. Hipsters, and those who aspire to be like them, should make their way to Hyde Park in South Tampa. This neighborhood is known for its eclectic eateries and shops, as well as its beautifully preserved cottages.

When visitors tire of big-city pursuits, a change of scenery is just a few minutes away. Canoeing and kayaking along the Hillsborough River make for a pleasant afternoon spent among cypress trees and alligators. Several small parks and gardens dot the landscape along the banks of this winding river, which makes a great setting for a picnic, a nap or even just a leisurely stroll.
