About Mount Dora
Lying just a half an hour outside of Orlando, the tiny town of Mount Dora couldn't be more dissimilar from the Land of the Mouse. Situated on hills that gently slope towards Lake Dora, Mount Dora is the very definition of quaint. It began its life as a winter vacation spot for northerners, earning it the nickname “New England of the South”. Today, the streets are lined with antique stores, art galleries and restaurants, all of which can be reached on foot. The lake offers boat and canoe rentals, with a dock that is perfect for nighttime star gazing. Visitors flock to Mount Dora year round for the wide variety of festivals that take place within the town. There are arts and craft festivals, antique boat festivals, plant and garden fairs and a festival dedicated to wacky and outlandish cars. One festival drew a quarter of a million people to Mount Dora, which is normally home to just ten thousand residents.
